The Curve Love Seat Bench: The Switzerland of Christmas Shopping

I know Christmas shopping is past, but I’m still licking my wounds. It takes me weeks to gear up to go shopping at the mall. On normal days, the mall is sparsely populated, and you can lazily stroll around window shopping admiring the elevator music and smelling the fake dusty roses. But during Christmas, it becomes Lord of the Flies.

Though I normally face the mall alone, this year I went out with a friend. My policy for Christmas shopping is, “This is going to suck, so let’s shop fast so it will suck less.” Her policy for Christmas shopping is, “Christmas is an experience, so let’s look at everything on the shelf and bask in the glory of this marvelous holiday.” We were literally in the mall for six hours to get five gifts. I love my friend to death, but when we stopped to admire the Christmas lights on the faux palm trees by the bathrooms, I just about lost it.

I needed to sit down. The mall had an ample amount of benches for weary shoppers to pass out on, but I have a thing about sitting next to strangers. It’s just hard for me to sit right by someone I don’t know. What if they’re saving that seat for someone? What if they get wierded out by me sitting next to them? What if they have a criminal record?

And then this Curve Love Seat bench appeared out of nowhere like an oasis in the desert. Though one bench, the “S” curve design was an ingenious border between two seats. I didn’t have to sit right next to a stranger, and both seats faced opposite directions, so I didn’t even have to go through the awkward eye contact. A beautiful piece of teak patio furniture, I can honestly say that was the highlight of my shopping experience. So six hours, two presents, and a few cracked ribs later, we made it out of the mall, but I don’t think I would have survived without that lovely patio bench.
