Adirondack Chair: Comfortable, Relaxing, and Won’t Melt

January 6, 2012 OutdoorLife Patio Furniture

During the summer, we have a lot of outdoor fires in our backyard in our wood burning fire pit. It’s mostly so we can have some family time and talk . . . as well as burn all the twigs that have been choking up our yard. The problem we’ve run into is the right kind of seating for our fireside chats.

We’ve never been the traditional outdoor patio furniture set people, so first, we bought some cheap green plastic chairs. They resembled chairs, but they were missing a few key qualities . . . like being able to sit on them. They wobbled and creaked when you sat down, but since we lost the receipt, we were married to them. However, after one of them collapsed because one of the legs melted from being too close to the fire, they were trashed.

Next, we got a used porch swing and attached it to our tree. It was a favorite seat by the fire . . . until it dropped from the branch and sent us rolling across the yard. So for his birthday, my dad asked for an Adirondack chair. He had tried one out and loved it. It’s contoured and has a deep seat which makes it ultra comfortable. My dad got his birthday wish, and now he has the most comfortable chair on our outdoor fire nights. But not for long, I think we’re all going to ask for an Adirondack chair for our birthdays.
